NekonyancerIn *Mesos,* players will take Character cards to help them in coming Events and spend surplus food to construct specialized Buildings. Character cards, Buildings, and Events are all worth victory points. [green]After nine rounds, whoever has the most points wins![/green]2maintitlebar_content

Nekonyancer[blue]*This landscape*[/blue] looks like a board, but it actually consists of four *Offer tiles.* If you play with more than 2 players, more tiles will be added.3mes-offer-tile-2

NekonyancerAt the beginning of each round, each player must move their [red]*Totem*[/red] from the [green]*Turn Order tile*[/green] to one of the Offer tiles. [blue]This choice will determine:[/blue] • How many *cards* they can take, and from where. • The *turn order* in the next round. • How much *food* they will gain or spend.4mes-start-tile

NekonyancerBGA randomly made us the first player, so let's get started! The third offer tile from the left will let us choose one card from the bottom row and one card from the top row. That sounds pretty good to me. *Click on the third tile from the left!*5mes-offer-tile-5

NekonyancerThe cards are separated into three types: [blue]*Buildings,[/blue] [green]Characters,[/green]* and [red]*Events.*[/red] [green](Step 10/41)[/green]3mes-card-21

Nekonyancer[blue]*Buildings*[/blue] usually require a lot of food. This one has a cost of 4 food, shown in the top-left corner) We can't afford it right now. As the first player, we only started with 2 food (our opponent started with 3). [blue]Maybe we'll come back for this later.[/blue]4mes-upper-area-buildings

Nekonyancer[green]*Character cards*[/green] are always *free.* Each one has an icon or two in the top-right corner, showing what kind of character it is and if it provides some kind of bonus. Most of them also have an icon in the bottom-left corner showing which *event* it will help with.5mes-card-16

NekonyancerFor instance, the bow and arrow on this card marks it as a *Hunter.* The shank of meat just under it indicates that we'll immediately acquire some food when we take the card. The icon in the bottom-left corner indicates that it will come in handy for *Hunt events.*6mes-card-2

NekonyancerBefore we take cards, we should take a look at the [red]*events.*[/red] Hmm. The one on the left is a *Cave Paintings* event. We'll want to get an *artist* or two then. The one on the right is a *Shamanic Ritual* event, so we'll need Shamans too!7mes-card-88

NekonyancerWith that in mind, *click on the Artist card in the top row!* It's the third one from the left.8mes-card-16

NekonyancerGood! Next, let's take a card from the bottom row. The middle card is a *Gatherer.* It will help a lot during Sustenance events! *Take the Gatherer!*1mes-card-11

NekonyancerAlright, we've taken a top card and a bottom card, so now we have to [green]*confirm*[/green] our choices. When we do, our totem will return to the [blue]*Turn Order Tile,*[/blue] automatically occupying the highest available slot.1mes-start-tile

NekonyancerIf you *hover* over the tile, you'll see that the top slot provides 1 food! The bottom slot *costs* 1 food, or 2 points if one is unable to pay! *Click on [green]"Confirm"[/green] at the top!*2mes-start-tile

Nekonyancer[green]That's the end of Round 1![/green] At the end of each round, BGA runs through four steps. *Step 1:* Any events in the bottom row are resolved. In this case, there aren't any. [green](Step 20/41)[/green]1mes-lower-area-characters

Nekonyancer*Step 2:* All character cards and event cards in the bottom row are discarded. Building cards in the bottom row are [red]NOT[/red] discarded.2mes-lower-area-characters

Nekonyancer*Step 4:* BGA reveals cards from the [blue]*Draw deck*[/blue] equal to the number of players plus 4 and places them all in the top row. In this case, BGA will add 6 cards to the top row.4mes-deck-card-background

NekonyancerNow we're ready to start *Round 2!* At the end of this round, the [red]*Cave Paintings*[/red] and [red]*Shamanic Ritual*[/red] events will resolve.5mes-lower-area-events

Nekonyancer[green]Now we're ready for Round 3![/green] This will be the last round in the first *Era.* Rounds 4-6 will comprise Era 2, and 7-9 make up Era 3. Each Era brings new buildings and harder events! The character cards are the same, though.3maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerWhen we enter *Era 2* (Round 4), any buildings that are still in the top row will move to the bottom row. When we enter *Era 3* (Round 7) any buildings in the top row will move to the bottom, and any buildings in the bottom row will be discarded. One last thing about buildings - though you'll always encounter the same characters and events in every game, buildings will always be different!4mes-card-97

NekonyancerIf you *scroll down* a little bit, you can see all the cards we've taken so far. Now that you know how the game works, I'll quickly run through all the character card types.5maintitlebar_content

Nekonyancer[red]*Gatherers*[/red] provide food discounts during Sustenance events. [blue]*Hunters:*[/blue] grant food and points during Hunt events and sometimes grant food immediately. Nekonyancer[red]*Shamans*[/red] help during Shamanic Ritual events. [blue]*Artists*[/blue] help during Cave Painting events. Also, each pair is worth 10 points. [green]*Inventors*[/green] are worth points equal to the number of Inventors multiplied by the number of unique Inventions.
