NekonyancerIn *Inside Job,* players will take turns playing cards from their hand in a series of mini-rounds called *tricks,* making this a *trick-taking* game. Most players - [blue]*Agents*[/blue] - will play specific cards to try and complete *missions.* If they complete enough of them before the end of the game, [green]they win![/green]2maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerBut beware! One player - the [red]*Insider*[/red] - will try to foil the agents' plans. If the Insider gains enough *Intel* before the Agents complete enough missions, they win instead! [red]In this tutorial, we will play as the Insider![/red]3role-card-1-front

NekonyancerAt the beginning of the game, each player is dealt *13/12/10* cards each for a *3/4/5* player game. This particular tutorial was made with a 3-player replay, so each player was dealt 13 cards. You might have to *scroll down* a little to see [red]*ours.*[/red] Cards come in four colors and are numbered from *1-13,* making a total of *52 cards.*4maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerAt the beginning of each trick (round), BGA will give the trick's first player two *mission cards.* They must look at them and select one to play face up. NekonyancerUnfortunately, mission cards are a little bit buggy in Tutorial Mode, so you won't be able to see them until I choose one. [blue]I'll do that now...[/blue]7maintitlebar_content

Nekonyancer[blue]Here's what I chose![/blue] Only cards with odd numbers may be played! If everyone does this, the mission will *succeed,* bringing those goody-two-shoes Agents one step closer to victory.1mission-card-1-front

NekonyancerNow that we've chosen a mission, we have to start the first trick by playing a card from our hand. There are no restrictions - we can play any card we want - but we should keep the *mission* in mind. As the [red]Insider,[/red] we want it to fail. But if we immediately ruin it by playing an even card, it will be very obvious that we're the Insider!2mission-card-1-front

NekonyancerWith that in mind, let's start the first trick with an innocuous [blue]Blue 3.[/blue] *Select the [blue]Blue 3.[/blue] Then [blue]"Confirm"[/blue] your choice at the top.*3trick-card-48-front

NekonyancerGood! Now it's [red]nekonekoneko3's[/red] turn to play a card, but they have some restrictions to follow. Like many other trick-taking games, Inside Job uses *"Lead & Follow"* rules. We *led* by playing a blue card. Now everyone else must *follow suit* by playing other blue cards! [green](Step 10/42)[/green]1player-info-92143487

NekonyancerOkay, they played the [blue]Blue 13.[/blue] By the way, if a player is unable to follow suit because they don't have any cards of that color in their hand, they are allowed to play any card they want. Nekonyancer[green]Okay, now everyone has played a card! Time to determine who won the trick.[/green] But first, I need to define two terms for you: *Trump Suit* and *Lead Suit.*1gameaction_status_wrap

NekonyancerThe *Trump Suit* is whichever suit is specified by the current trick's Mission card. [green]In this case, the Trump Suit is green.[/green] Since there's a different mission every trick, the Trump Suit will be different every trick as well.2mission-card-1-front

NekonyancerThe *Lead Suit* is simply the suit of the card that was played first. In this case, the Blue 3 was the first card played, so the Lead Suit is blue.3trick-card-48-front

Nekonyancer[blue]So who wins the trick?[/blue] The winner is always whoever played the highest card of the *Trump Suit.* If no cards of the Trump Suit have been played, whoever played the highest card of the *Lead Suit* wins. Got that? Highest Trump, then highest Lead.4gameaction_status_wrap

NekonyancerIn this case, no Trump (green) cards have been played. [red]nekonekoneko3[/red] played the highest card of the Lead Suit (blue), so they win the trick!5trick-card-6-front

NekonyancerWhen [red]nekonekoneko3[/red] won the trick, two important things happened. First of all, the Mission was successfully completed. BGA keeps track of successful Missions [red]*here.*[/red] The Agents need 8 more successes to win the game!1missions-counter

NekonyancerSecond, as the winner of the trick, [red]nekonekoneko3[/red] gained *1 Intel.* 💼 Remember, as the Insider, we need to accumulate *6* Intel to win. That means we need to try and win as many tricks as possible!2intels-counter-92143487

NekonyancerFor this mission to succeed, the first and last cards must be of the same suit. That means we would have to play a *yellow* card. There's yellow card in our hand, but since we don't have to follow suit, we can play something else!2mission-card-20-front

Nekonyancer[green]Two more things to note about wagering:[/green] 1. In each trick, the first player may not wager. 2. The winner of each trick will acquire any and all wagered intel in the trick.2trick-card-16-front

NekonyancerSince [green]neko4's[/green] card is now technically a Trump card, they win the trick. That means they get to take back their wagered Intel, in addition to the normal Intel reward. They probably didn't want [red]neko3[/red] to get another Intel. [blue]I think our seeds of distrust are bearing fruit![/blue] 3trick-card-16-front

Nekonyancer*Okay, I think you've seen enough of the gameplay!* The game will continue until... [red]• The Insider[/red] accumulates enough Intel, winning the game. [blue]• The Agents[/blue] succeed enough times, winning the game. • Enough rounds pass with neither side winning. All of these conditions vary with player count.4maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerIf that last condition (neither side wins) comes to pass, then something special happens. Everyone must discuss who they think the [red]Insider[/red] is and then *vote!* The player who receives the most votes must reveal their identity. If they're the Insider, the Agents win! If not, the Insider wins!5maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerIn some games, an [blue]Agent[/blue] may accumulate the game-ending amount of Intel. If this happens, they must *reveal* their identity. The game will then continue, but the revealed player can no longer wager intel.6maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerOnce you have some experience with the normal Agent and Insider roles, you might consider spicing up the game with some *Special Roles,* which incorporate different game objectives, special characteristics, and specific weaknesses. NekonyancerFinally, if you want to make the game a little more challenging for the [blue]Agents,[/blue] you might consider toggling *Risky Mode.* This will shuffle several *Risky Missions* into the deck of Mission Cards. If a player draws 1 Risky Mission and 1 normal one, they *must* play the Risky mission. If they draw 2 Risky missions at once, they can choose either one.8maintitlebar_content
