Each round, you will attempt to distill a single spirit. c12h22o11_The game is played over 7 rounds and each round has several phases. (Start of Round Actions) 1. Market Phase 2. Distill Phase 3. Sell Phase 4. Age phase But before we get there, we have to select a Distiller Identity.3bm-card-98-front

c12h22o11_Your Distiller has a unique power that only you will have access to. Here, Joana sells each un-aged spirit for 1 additional money. Click Joana to flip over the card and see the back.4distiller1-front

c12h22o11_Here you can see that each Distiller starts with different ingredients. Joana starts with 4 money, 1 yeast, and 0 water. Go ahead and hit the confirm button at the top of the page to confirm your choice of Distiller.5distiller1-back

c12h22o11_Now that your opponent chose a distiller, you get your starting cards and we begin the market phase. Please scroll down to your player board.1bm-card-101-front

c12h22o11_This is your player board. Here you have your: * Pantry, which holds ingredients ready to be used * Store room, which holds bottles and barrels. Note that you start with a metal barrel and a glass bottle. * Two warehouses, which hold spirits as they age. You may only have two aging spirits at a time. * Washback, this is a temporary location for spirits you are in the process of making.2icon_canvas_pantry__86801878

c12h22o11_This is your recipe flight. It shows the recipes you are able to make. Everyone starts with the ability to make vodka, moonshine, and their personal signature spirit. Throughout the game you can unlock the ability to distill other spirits by acquiring recipe cubes for those spirits.3myPlayerRecipeCard_86801878

c12h22o11_FYI, this +/- button here makes the whole recipe flight bigger. You can use this to see the specific requirements for each recipe. Advanced spirits have very specific requirements. Each requires a certain number of a certain kind of sugars. Gin needs 2+ fruit sugars, while Baijiu needs 3+ grain sugars. Baijiu is also an aged spirit that requires you to have a clay barrel in your store room4jumboCard_86801878

c12h22o11_Each spirit is also associated with a region, the base game comes with the Americas (Green), Europe (Blue), and Asia & Oceania (Red). The final region is the "Home" region for Moonshine, Vodka, Whiskey, and your signature spirit. This home region is evaluated as your Distiller's home region which is on your distiller card. That's enough about the flight - back up to the market!5myPlayerFlight_86801878

c12h22o11_The market has 2 sections: a basic market, shown here with cards that are always available, and a premium market with cards that are drawn from each of the decks on the left. In Distilled, there are 3 kinds of sugar cards: 1) Grain Sugars 2) Plant Sugars 3) Fruit Sugars Each type can be found in the basic market and the premium market. Fruit sugars are the most expensive but worth the most.6bm-card-98-front

c12h22o11_In the bottom right of all market cards is its market cost - this is how much you must pay to buy it. In the bottom left you might find a number of SP you get when you sell a spirit with this ingredient in it. In the top left you might find an amount of money you get when you sell a spirit with this ingredient in it.7ing-card-40-front

c12h22o11_The premium market has 3 rows. The first is Distillery Upgrades, which cards you can acquire until the end of the game (or until you replace them) that give you special powers over the course of the game. The second row is premium ingredients, which are better versions of the basic ingredients that are worth Spirit Points (victory points) and/or money when you sell them.8du-card-19-front

c12h22o11_The third row has premium items, which are barrels and bottles you can use to increase the value of your spirits or distill more advanced recipes.9item-card-premiumItemsDeck-back

c12h22o11_Let's start off by getting a Distillery Upgrade. You have 3 slots for Distillery Upgrade cards, if you ever want to buy a fourth, you will have to discard one. Let's buy the Glassblower. Click the Glassblower card and then choose to place the card on Slot 1. You will have to confirm the action.10archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

c12h22o11_Your glass blower has been placed on your personal player board. Now, and for the rest of the game, once per market phase, you can get a discount when buying a bottle from the premium market. Plus, many Distillery Upgrades are worth SP at the end of the game. If this is in your distillery at the end of the game, this one is worth 1 SP per region represented by your bottle collection.1du1_86801878-front

c12h22o11_Notice that the premium market refills immediately. When a card is purchased, all the cards in that row slide to the right and the row is refilled from the left. Now that you've bought a card, it is your opponent's turn.2du-card-14-front

c12h22o11_Your opponent purchased Sorghum from the premium ingredients. They have a discount of 2 off any ingredient, so they got it for free. But you have a discount too! Let's use our discount right away. c12h22o11_When you buy water, you can reveal the top card of any one of the premium market decks. You have the opportunity to buy a card from there or put it on the bottom of the deck. There are no Distillery Upgrades or Ingredients you can buy for 1 money, so click the Premium Items to see what we see.1reveal2

c12h22o11_This was the top card of the deck, but we don't have enough money to afford it anyway. Put it back on the bottom by clicking Pass.1item-card-71-front

c12h22o11_We're going to try to make a more advanced spirit this round called Cachaca, but right now you don't have enough money. When you buy yeast, it doesn't cost anything and you actually gain 1 money. This will give you the money you need to buy the cachaca recipe. You may be worried about not yet having sugars to distill with. Just trust me ok?! Click yeast and confirm the purchase.1bm-card-98-front

c12h22o11_You've used up your purchases from the basic market. But you can still buy a recipe cube. Scroll down and meet me at your recipe flight.1bm-card-101-front

c12h22o11_This is where you purchase the recipe cube for cachaca. Since it's a bronze tier recipe, this will cost you 2 money. Silver tier recipes cost 4 and gold tier cost 6. Click here and hit the confirm button at the top.2recipeCubeSlot_0_86801878

c12h22o11_The market phase is over. The game automatically detected that even with any discounts you could use, neither player had enough money to buy anything from the market and neither player had any purchases remaining from the basic market. 1bm-card-100-front

c12h22o11_At the end of the market phase, the last two columns of the basic market are put in the truck. In a game with more than two players, only one column is put in the trucks. At any time, you can click on the pile to see what's in there. 2du-card-26-back

c12h22o11_Now it's time to distill, but wait! You don't have any sugars and you need at least one to distill. Not to worry, before you distill, you may trade one card from your pantry or store room (not your starting items) and trade them with the basic market for something of equal or lesser value. c12h22o11_The Plastic Liter Bottle has a market value of 1. The Mixed Plants have a market value of 1. Open the Store Room, then Click your plastic liter bottle, then hit the button at the top of the page that says "trade with truck". 4floatingStoreroomButton

c12h22o11_Since Mixed Plants have a market cost equal to or less than mixed plants, we can trade our bottle for mixed plants. Click the mixed plants button and then confirm the trade.5du-card-3-front

c12h22o11_Well, your plant sugar got removed. Since cachaca requires at least 1 plant sugar and vodka requires at least one sugar of any kind, your only option is to make Moonshine. Good news! Moonshine is worth the most money. Bad news, Moonshine is worth the fewest Spirit Points.1selectMoonshine1000

c12h22o11_When you select a recipe, you add a barrel card to your spirit, in this case your starting Metal Barrel. If there are still labels remaining for that spirit type, you also claim the label. For each spirit, there are the same number of labels as there are players, except for Vodka and Moonshine which have 2 labels per player. 2label-8label_0-front

c12h22o11_Select Moonshine to put your spirit in a metal barrel and collect the Moonshine label. If there were multiple different spirits you could have made, they would have shown up here as well. 3selectMoonshine1000

c12h22o11_Spirits are either Aged or Un-aged. Moonshine is an un-aged spirit. Un-aged spirits must be sold the same round they're made. Selling a drink is a complicated process. First, you select the spirit you want to sell. You may have more than one if you have spirits aging in your warehouse.1bm-card-101-front

c12h22o11_If you have a label for the spirit you made, you get to place that label to claim one of these 7 bonuses. These can be very powerful, game changing actions. Each one can only be claimed once per game. FYI - the one in blue and purple is the only way you can move your signature ingredient to your pantry. Click on the "1 Free Distillery Upgrade" all the way to the right.2label2_86801878

c12h22o11_Each label bonus can also provide 2 SP. This is more of an end game thing, so we'll actually take the Distillery Upgrade.3labelRewardsButton

c12h22o11_The tour guide says, "At the start of the round, gain 1 money". Click the Tour Guide and place it on Slot 2 using the buttons at the top. Finally confirm this whole sale and end your turn.4du-card-23-front

Each distiller has a spirit that only they can distill. That spirit must contain a particular ingredient which in our case is sugarcane! Let's buy it! c12h22o11_At this point there's really nothing in the market that will help you. You could buy that jug, but just go ahead and hit End Market Phase. This will end your market phase for the round. Other players will be able to continue until they either don't want to play or can't play.1pass_button

c12h22o11_all of your sugars stayed in the spirit and that includes your required ingredient of Sugarcane, so this turn you have a choice of which spirit to make. Caninha Cachaca worth the most points so select that one.1bm-card-98-front

c12h22o11_This round you're going to try to make an aged spirit. To do this, you'll need a few things. 1) The recipe cube, 2) the right ingredients, 3) the right barrel. Scroll down to the recipe flight to purchase the recipe cube.1bm-card-100-front

c12h22o11_Whiskey is an aged spirit. Notice that it has the icon for a wooden barrel and an hourglass indicating it is an aged spirit. It also requires at least 2 grain sugars and no other kinds of sugars. Click the recipe cube slot next to whiskey and confirm the purchase.2recipeCubeSlot_3_86801878

c12h22o11_Sometimes you can buy a wood barrel from the premium market, but there aren't any available right now. Buy the wood barrel from the basic market. 1bm-card-104-front

c12h22o11_Hooray! You have 2+ grain sugars, no other sugars, a Whiskey recipe cube, and a wood barrel. You made Whiskey. Confirm your selection, which will put your spirit into a wood barrel and collect your Whiskey label (because they're still available).1selectWhiskey1030

c12h22o11_Your spirit has been added to your warehouse. Whiskey is an aged spirit which means you cannot sell it until next round at the earliest, instead it will sit in your warehouse gaining flavor cards until you choose to sell it. Every flavor card sells for 0-3 money, but you won't know how much until you sell it!2icon_canvas_warehouse1__86801878

c12h22o11_Aged spirits also get bonus points based on the number of flavor cards. 1 point for 1 flavor card but 15 if you manage to get 5 flavor cards. Back up to the top and hit continue.3myPlayerDistillery_86801878_wrapper

c12h22o11_On a round where you do not sell anything, you are given the opportunity to hold a "Tasting." A tasting allows you to exchange up to 4 SP for an equal amount of money. This can give you more money as you go into your next round's market phase. Hit the maximum of 4 to exchange 4 of your SP for 4 money.4tasting4

c12h22o11_Just a few things and this tutorial is over! The main way you get points in this game is by making and selling spirits, but there are a few others.1bm-card-101-front

c12h22o11_Spirit awards are given to players who have achieved the stated goal before the end of the round. Spirit awards are always given out at the end of the round and in the case of ties, they are split between the winners. There are always player-count + 1 spirit awards in play so watch what your opponents and beat them to claim these awards and the SP they provide. 2sa-18-overlay

c12h22o11_When you use premium bottles they go into your display case. In addition to the points you get from the card when you sell a spirit in the bottle, you also get end-game points based on sets you've created. It's possible to get 15 points from these!3display_86801878_wrapper
