contigIn Eminent Domain, players attempt to get the most galactic prestige by attacking, colonizing, and using planets they've explored. Note: For this tutorial, you may need to scroll down to see the next step.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

contigGame turns consist of an an *action*, a *role*, and *cleanup*.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

contigEach player takes a turn, until one (or two) role stacks are depleted. We'll talk more about these later.3board

contigWe are the first player. Click Politics to play this card as an action. Then select Survey, in the role stacks below. That puts an extra Survey in our hand.4card_role_politics_1

contigFor our *Role* phase, a player picks a role card in one of the role stacks. They can then add cards with matching symbols from their hand. We want to add more planets to our empire, so, we will select Survey, and then add the two Survey symbols in your hand. This would use the role with 3 symbols.1card_role_survey_8

contigSince we used 3 survey cards for our role, we get to look at 3 planets and pick one. As we'll see later, it can be helpful to have matching planets Pick the middle purple planet. This adds it face down to our empire.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

contigThe other player gets a chance to *follow* our role, if they also have survey cards. While we could wait to see what they choose, for this tutorial we will just proceed to *cleanup*1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

contigTo *cleanup*, we can discard any cards we want. We always will draw up (or discard down) to our hand size, which starts at 5. If we discard cards we don't want, we can draw replacements. We want to Colonize next turn, so discard the other two cards (Produce/Trade, then Research, then Done)2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

contigWe discarded and drew cards from our own personal deck. Over the game, we'll add more cards to it, which will affect what we draw.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

contigAfter we draw our new hand, our opponent gets a turn. We don't get to respond to their *action*, but we do get to participate in their *role*2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

contigLooks like they skipped their action. (Actions are optional) After the action, the opponent gets to pick a role. But roles are not optional. They have to pick something.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

contigHooray! The opponent picked Colonize! We can *follow* their role using our own colonize cards. Let's wait for them to discard, and then play our own Colonize cards.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

contigHere we *Follow* by selecting both cards and use the role with two symbols. Then we add them to the start planet. We don't get a bonus card because we didn't pick the role, but this is still ok.1card_role_colonize_1

contigThe Start planet's *Colonize Cost* is 2 colonize cards. You can see this on the planet. This means it is ready to be Settled in a future turn once we place our colonize cards under it.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

contigOn our next turn, we'll work on our military. In this game, you can also attack planets, once you have enough fighters. Select the Warfare card to take this action. Then choose the fighter image to get one fighter.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

contigWe want to settle our world to start using it, so we'll do something a bit different. Warfare and Colonize have an second option you can pick on your turn. (This option is not available on the opponent's turn) Instead of adding colonies (or gaining fighters), you can Settle or Attack a world if you've met its cost.1card_role_colonize_9

contigOur start world requires 2 tucked colonize cards to Settle it, and we have that. We click Colonize and select Settle 1 planet. Then we select the planet on the left.2card_planet_0_6

contigOur start world is now settled, which means we can make use of it. This planet gives us two prestige (listed in the top right corner), which count as victory points.1card_planet_0_6

contigWe already have another planet to work on, so let's discard Survey for now. Click Survey to discard it, then hit Done.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

contigHaving colonized this planet, you can produce on it.. We select Produce/Trade. We can only select one action, but we can pick either one. We don't have anything to trade yet, so we pick the produce card, then the yellow produce icon on the left. Then we select the purple world.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

contigAnother benefit of owning a planet is *Research* This allows you to use your Research bulb icons to buy more powerful cards. Each Research card here is associated with one planet type, and requires certain planets/bulbs.1card_role_research_9

contigTo do this, we select Research, then add the two bulbs from your hand, and then research with 3 bulbs. We will use this to gain Improved Survey.2card_role_research_9

contigNote the new Improved Survey went into your hand. Research cards always enter your hand, even if it's not your turn when you bought it. You can still discard it during Cleanup.1card_tech_1_12

contigWe're almost done, here are some additional rule details. When you *follow* another player's Survey role, you get to look at one fewer planet than your survey symbols. This means you need at least 2 in order to do anything.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

contigSo we get to look at 2 planets (since we used 3 symbols.)1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

contigThe opponent has 4 fighters, which is enough to attack their planet, and they can use the Warfare role to do this.1card_planet_2_8

contigHaving a planet with this symbol increases your hand size by 1. So the opponent will draw (or discard) to 6 cards instead of 5.1card_planet_2_8

contigPlanets can also have Role symbols. This planet has a Trade symbol, meaning we get a bonus symbol whenever anyone chooses Trade as their role. Note if the opponent chooses Produce, we don't get to Trade (even though Produce/Trade are on the same card)2card_planet_1_6

contigYou can also get points by trading goods. By selecting Trade as our action, we can trade the resource on our planet for a point. We'll have two symbols, though we can only use one of them since we only have one good to trade.1card_role_produce_1

contigWe can also get points from higher level technology cards. Level 2 technologies in this game require 5 bulbs, and two matching planets. If we select *Research*, we can get a level 2 technology this turn-- we have 4 bulbs in hand, and will gain one from the bonus role card.1card_role_research_9

contigOur new research card is a *Permanent* ability so it doesn't go into our hand. This one is *Streamlining*, which lets us remove a card for free each turn.1card_tech_2_75

contigAs the game goes on, players may get several research cards. There are level 3 *permanent* abilities that offer even stronger abilities.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

contigThe game end is triggered when one role stack is empty. (Or two stacks in a 4 player game.) All players get an equal number of turns (meaning the last player in turn order takes their turn). Then typically all players get one more round. (This means all players will get at least one more turn, regardless of who triggered game end.)1board

contigThe game end can also be triggered if all the extra influence tokens are used up, from trading goods.2stock_vp

contigPlayers can earn points (prestige) from flipping planets, trading goods, or researching technologies. Most points wins!3stock_vp
