AroganckiKartoflakRound starts with a bidding phase. Everybody at the table takes turn to declare how many points they think their pair can get this round. Every player only gets one chance!6archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

AroganckiKartoflakThe person sitting on the left hand of the dealer starts. Since for this round our partner Damien1015 is the dealer, the bidding starts with Snowrider, then it proceeds clockwise.7archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

AroganckiKartoflakWe can see that he already bid 6, which is the minimal number you can bid.8archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

AroganckiKartoflakSome cards in Pedro yield point values. If you or your partner win a trick having them you receive points! Those are: Aces - 1 point Jacks - 3 points 10s - 1 point 5s - 5 points 2s - 1 point9archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

AroganckiKartoflakPerson wins the trick by playing the highest trump in the trick or the highest card in the leading suit. The cards used in Pedro are a standard-deck of 52 cards. The ranks of the cards are A (highest), K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 (lowest).10archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

AroganckiKartoflakHowever, *only cards in a trump suit give any points*. You won't get points for any other suit. 11archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

AroganckiKartoflakException to this rule are 5s. Corresponding 5 in red or black color is also treated as trump and also gives points. Off-suit trump 5 is considered slightly weaker than regular trump 5, which means if they were the only trumps played the regular trump 5 would win!12archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

AroganckiKartoflakTherefore each round you can receive maximum of 1+3+1+2*5+1=16 points.13archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

AroganckiKartoflakYou may ask how is the trump suit decided? Well, the person who bids the highest number selects it! After the bidding is over all cards that are not trumps are discarded and everybody draws until they have 6 cards. Therefore it is usually best to bid only if you have a suit with a lot of cards!14archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

AroganckiKartoflakOur best suit is probably clubs with only 3 cards. They are pretty strong, but we lack point-scoring cards, so it may be risky to bid there. Let's pass.16archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

AroganckiKartoflakOur partner bid 7 and won. He may now decide the trump suit for this round.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

AroganckiKartoflakHe chose Diamonds. Now everybody will discard all the cards apart from Diamonds (and 5 of Hearts) and draw so they have 6 cards.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

AroganckiKartoflakTo ensure every trump is in play, the dealer may take all the remaining trump cards in the deck. Keep that in mind, as this gives the pair with the dealer significant advantage!2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

AroganckiKartoflakThe playing phase now starts. Our objective is to get 7 points collectively with our partner. If we manage to do that we get as many points as we scored. However, if we get less than 7 points, at the end of the round we get -7 points. Don't bite more than you can chew! Opponents' team also get points, but since they did not win the bid, they cannot go into negatives.3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

AroganckiKartoflakIt is our turn to play again. We have no trumps remaining, but we are still allowed to play, since we are not obliged to play trumps if we start the trick. AroganckiKartoflakIf any player decides to bid 16 (the maximum number) then the stakes are doubled: it means they can get whooping 32 points for this round! On the other hand, it means they can get -32 points as well, so it's an enormous risk.7archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

AroganckiKartoflakAlso if after the bidding phase any player has more than 6 cards they would have to play two cards per trick until they have the same number of cards as everybody. The highest trump still wins, though. It happens very rarely, but it's worth keeping in mind.8archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment
