I tried to spend part of the action on the training track and then one step on the book track--wouldn't let me do it. This was in round 6.

I have taken five screenshots of each stage of the process to help explain further: imgur.com/a/9I5OLTc.
As previously stated the workaround was to take the initiative track action first and then the career track.
I took the turquoise die to get 4 movement points. I took 2 on the initiative track, 1 on the clergy track and 1 on the military track to step 6 which should give another step on initiative track, but it didn't.
Copy/paste from the game log:

Grobbebol moves meeple_m_ff0000_12 into track_wcareer_6
Grobbebol advances 1 step(s) on the Initiative track
Grobbebol advances 1 step(s) on the Initiative track
Grobbebol moves meeple_m_ff0000_2 into track_ccareer_5
Split my movements : 2 for Clergy, 1 political and one Initiative track (books). The game do not allow saying :
"Erreur interne. Cela n'aurait pas dû arriver. Envoyez un rapport de bug svp." (french intreface)
If you know what happened why you not fix it? I had the same problem. in game:

Changing moving order is not solution, because there is no possibility cancel move and try again.

For the developers, the problem appears when using the Signoria action on the turquoise die. It allows you to move from 1 to 4 spaces on any (and multiple) tracks (initiative or any/all of the career tracks). Trying to move on the career track first apparently results in an internal error and we are directed to report the bug.
When Red drafts the teal 2 and performs the Signoria action, he cannot choose to progress 3 --> 6 on the military track (which would give +1 initiative) and also use the fourth point of movement from the Signoria action to get a raw +1 initiative.
Refreshing did not help. It consistently happens when this action is attempted.
