I also ran into this problem. On PC (Chrome 128), it told me I had NaN (not a number) worth of shares in the companies I did have shares in and offered me the option to declare the same for Epic Electric (which was paying dividends). When I tried this, I got an error as reported by the original poster.
I switched to my Android phone (BGA app) and it allowed me to correctly declare 1 share of Epic Electric. Not sure if it matters, but I had 1 share in 3 companies and zero in the other three.
