This is by design - your screen is not large enough to accommodate the yard at all times. You can tap on it to bring it into view.

It slides on to the screen when it is needed (e.g., when you must bury dice) or when you click on it. It slides back to stop obscuring the screen afterwards. It's a slick way of showing the asset large enough to be readable on a small screen
On a larger screen, it's visible all of the time.
We've developed a multitude of games for BGA and found that small icons result in complaints that they're not sufficiently visible.
