It either stayed larger but unselected (no outline; not playable; no dashed outline on table rows), or went unselected, or opened tooltip. Sometimes another bird had the same problem; sometimes all birds in my hand had the same problem (see screenshots).

I experienced this problem also on mobile (iPhone) using Firefox and Safari. Some bird cards can't be selected when tapped on. Though it hasn't happened for me with every turn or every game

Bij mij op de iphone gebeurd het ook weleens dat ik een vogel niet kan selecteren. Soms met vergroten/verkleinen van het scherm gaat het wel. Maar net kon ik helemaal niks selecteren.

Je n'ai pu sélectionner mes oiseaux comme si la page était figé. Cependant, je pouvais accéder au tchatche!
J'ai prévenu mon adversaire afin d'abandonner pour relancer une autre partie mais celui-ci ne connaissais pas la proposition d'abandon des joueurs? :/

refreshed paged twice, I also F5 a coulpe of time to no resolution. I mentioned this to my opponent , but he expelled me from the game anyways, and it was an arena match,

F5 solves the problem.
The problem appears several times. It's seemingly random.
I've only seen it on iOS (Safari). So far, it has worked fine on my Mac (Safari).
