After today's update, only spots were your current tile can fit have a dark grey background. This is wrong for two reasons:
1. Makes the board look bad, like broken.
2. More importantly, this provokes that the shape of the board is changing constantly. It is much more difficult to concentrate. The only part of the board that should change is were a tile has been placed.

Sometimes a spot in the middle of a castle would just not become available, despite all the tiles around it being filled. it makes no sense.

2020年 7月16日 15:21 • In my opinion the main issue of this update is that finding a fitting available spot for the tile to be played, is part of the ability of a Carcassone player. Highlighting the fitting spots is a way to unnecessarily dumb down the game. It moves away the experience of playing online from the experience of playing "over the board".

I come from the Deep Silver PC Implementation of Carcassonne (online server is gone), and they had this feature from the beginning. Together with a "how many points would I get if the game ended NOW" preview, and a fat red X on places for which no tile was available any more, and a list of the cards that are still in the stack (not in drawing order, of course).
Compared with final result preview, "blocked" indicators and list of remaining tiles, the placement help is really insignificant. I never missed it on BGA. The others, oh boy, I'd love to have them. Tile counting with your nose on the screen is sooo error prone...
In the second version, Deep Silver introduced a "hardcore" switch. It turned all helpers off. Funny enough, most people didn't play that way. A few hardcore tilewhackers created a "blitz hardcore" league, where you had a total of 5 minutes thinking time (less than 10s per tile) and no helpers at all. They had fun. I played it once, and wound up as a nervous wreck...
