When you place a root on this mushroom you gain a permanent bonus (permanent bonuses always take effect on the next action and not on the action that triggered it). From your next action, if you choose the Partner action and you choose to place a mushroom, you can place a second one for free. This means that you have to pay for the first one to get the second one for free.
