Initially an 'Error 502' message came up and the game table was no longer accessible to either player. I now have access to the table but when clicking to abandon it states that the other player has refused to abandon collectively, even if the player is offline. I have a separate chat open with that player who has said they have not refused to abandon but instead can't access the game table. We would like this game abandoned with no karma penalty for either of us.

Your bug has probably been fixed already, or was linked to a temporary failure of BGA service.
