Hi, the King of Carcassonne World Championship 2025 comes to an end! We have bignacho610 winning again after last year's triumph! CTCTCTCTCT first come to the podium as 2nd, whereas last year's 3rd place crocodilefundy finished again in the same position! Congratulation to everyone!
This year we have a full house of 512 players signing up. So be early next year, don't miss the opportunity to join this traditional big Carcassonne event!

I am excited to announce some great news! The King of Carcassonne is invited to the live Carcassonne World Championship! We will send the winner of the King of Carcassonne Tournament of Champions 2025 to Herne in October 2025. If the winner cannot attend or has already qualified, the runner-up may attend in their place.
To ensure the Tournament of Champions finishes before the live Carcassonne World Championship and allows the winner to plan their trip, we will abandon the proposed change to the tournament format. This means its format will remain a single round-robin tournament, as in the previous year.
To participate in the King of Carcassonne Tournament of Champions, players must compete in at least one of the two larger open tournaments. Please see /group?id=1794042§ion=publicinfos for details. The King of Carcassonne World Cup 2025 is currently open for registration at /tournament?id=359243.
Additionally, a one-year premium BGA membership will be awarded on behalf of Carcassonne Central. I would like to sincerely thank the sponsors for their support.

This is the only tournament I play with people/groups I don’t know. I look forward to participating each year. Yet it’s been spoiled for my last time by someone skipping my turns with 1 tile to go. No rules broken, as I was the one that ran out of time, but to skip then run down 24 hours of clock! Shameful and disappointing. So that’s it, Paolino87 you’ve out the last nail in the coffin. I’m out for ever more. Good luck to all the fair players. May the poor sportsman choke on their hollow victories.

After some thoughts, I decided to keep the max size of top division to 15, but the actual size may vary.
The max A players is 12, and that is why in early years the size of Tournament of Champions is set at 12. B and C players are meant to fill the places when there are not that many A players or A players declined the place. But then the size of the two big qualification tournaments grows, and in the same time the interest to join the Tournament of Champions by B and C players, hence the size of Tournament of Champions increases. Now, together with the reigning champion, the max direct entries would be 13, and to always promote someone from lower division, it is better keeping the max size at 15.
However, the following clause would be added,
-The reigning champion and winner of CCL, same as standard A, B, and C players, will not be replaced should they declined/qualified by other routes.
-If there are more than one group in the division, each group will promote the same number of players to a higher division.
-The total number of players promoted to a higher division will depend on the number space available in the higher division, and may not exceed one-third of the total number of players in the division.

In recent years there are strong interests in joining the Tournament of Champions. Due to the limited number of places in the round robin format, the tournament gets full quickly. Players on the list of standard C often get invited but not able to join. Last year in response to amires21’s suggestions I created another one for those who are eligible but haven't registered.
Starting from 2025, I propose a revamp on the format with an expansion so that everyone get invited can play. The new format will see the Tournament of Champions divided into 3 divisions of Round Robin. The players will enter the divisions according to the original 3 standards, and players who do well in lower division can be promoted to a higher division. On the other hand, as the overall winner, the winner of the Tournament of Champions Division 1 in previous edition can get a Division 1 spot to defend his title. Also, in support of the Carcassonne Champions League (CCL), the winner of CCL is invited the Tournament of Champions, starting from Division 3.
So the access list of King of Carcassonne Tournament of Champions starting from 2025
Division 3 (2 groups)
- standard C players
- winner of Carcassonne Champions League
Division 2 (1 group of 15 players)
- standard B players
- top ranked players from Division 3

statmatt But that's just my opinion, I'll likely play whatever you choose. It is your competition and you've done great to grow it to the size it is! It seems like the biggest Carcassonne turn based event of the year!

This year we have an outright winner in the Tournament of Champions! Lawyer has won all 14 games out of 14 to be crowned the King of Carcassonne for 2024! We also applaud to Kithara and szigfrid who have wonderful performance to make it to the podium. Last of all, thanks everybody who have joined the King of Carcassonne series this year. We wish to see you returning again next year.

Since Carcassonne is brought into BGA in late 2016, the King of Carcassonne championship series is set up with an initiative to bring in online worldwide Carcassonne tournaments designed for literally everybody, across all time zone, especially those can't go physically to the official World Championship for whatever reason.
After initial trial and error, currently there are 3 tournaments that are running regularly every year, and occasionally other tournaments are held as well.
Out of the 3 tournaments, the first 2 are open to everyone, and thanks to the love of Carcassonne community, they are some of the biggest tournaments in BGA.
1. King of Carcassonne World Championship - Swiss system format that usually starts at Jan
2. King of Carcassonne World Cup - Single Elimination format.
(In 2021 edition, it attracted a record high of 482 players, going close to 512, the upper limit of places available in BGA for tournaments in this format. So, starting from 2022, the Groups Stage format is employed. Using Single Elimination in both stage 1 and 2 to keep the whole tournament in Single Elimination format essentially, the number of participants can theoretically increase to 1,000,000. The tournament also moves from August to July)
The first two tournaments, in their high prestige on their own, also act as qualification to the 3rd and ultimate tournament
3. King of Carcassonne Tournament of Champions - Round Robin format in which the winner is crown the King of Carcassonne of the year!
Currently to qualify for the Tournament of Champions, you must reach the required standard (see below) in one or both tournament(s) in the same year. Invitations would be sent to qualified players, and those who respond by registration on the tournament page while there are spaces will be able to play in the Tournament of Champions.
Invitation to the Tournament of Champions goes out in three batches, players qualified for standard A get the first invitation to the tournament. It is guaranteed to have enough (or more) space for standard A players at that time. If those players don’t respond by a certain date, or withdraw thereafter, then open seats are offered to the Standard B players, and so on to the Standard C players. Players can register to fill up seats available once the invitation is sent to them.
Standard A
